Japan

Based on the percentage of Christians among the total population, Japan is the second largest unreached people group on earth. Kansai area in western Japan has a population of over 20 million people. While there are some churches in Kansai there is very little Christian witness. Missionary endeavors have dotted the landscape of Kansai for a long time, but many of them have little doctrinal focus. Japanese churches tend to be insular communities stuck in tradition. The ever-elusive idea of “Japanese Christianity” has led many churches down the path of syncretism and liberalism. Many of the institutions started to train faithful pastors have compromised the truth of the gospel. Missionaries and Japanese churches have tended to be at odds with one another. The result of all of this is weak churches, a-theological ministries, and a lack of cooperation and direction.
