Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant works with the Controller to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of Reaching & Teaching’s financial records and reporting. This role involves managing core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting; while also providing bookkeeping support as needed across accounts payable, expense processing, and cash receipts. The Senior Accountant will serve within the Finance Department, report to the Director of Operations and Finance, and carry out all duties in a manner consistent with the purpose, core values, and mission statement of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

- General Accounting & Financial Reporting:
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries to the general ledger ensuring accurate coding, proper period posting, and compliance with GAAP
- Support the month-end and year-end close process, including preparation of balance sheet and revenue account reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements and fund reports for leadership, staff, and Global Workers
- Maintain and reconcile the organization’s fund accounts for accuracy and proper fund designation
- Assist with the preparation of year-end external audit schedules and support the annual audit process
- Apply knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, including fund accounting, donor restrictions, and grant compliance
- Ensure financial transactions and reporting comply with applicable nonprofit regulations and GAAP
- Perform ad hoc analysis and create reports as requested by the Controller or Director of Operations & Finance
- Proactively identify risks, discrepancies, and areas of improvement in financial processes and recommend solutions to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in special projects and cross-training initiatives within the Finance Department Team
- Maintain current standard operating procedure documentation for the Finance Team

- Ensure donations and expense entries are accurately recorded in accounting software and that vendor payments are processed timely
- Review and process staff and global worker expenses, verifying proper documentation and coding
- Reconcile bank statements, donor platforms, and all vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Employee shall maintain membership in a local church with beliefs that RTIM determines to be consistent with RTIM’s statements of faith
- Employee shall perform all duties consistent with RTIM’s theological beliefs and standards as reflected in its statements of faith
- Employee shall annually affirm in writing and without reservation RTIM’s statements of faith
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required); CPA/MBA (preferred)
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Demonstrated understanding of nonprofit and fund accounting principles
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required), familiarity with Sage Intacct a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Familiarity with AI-powered tools and a willingness to leverage emerging technologies to improve accounting workflows and efficiency
- Competency in relevant collaboration and productivity platforms (Asana, Notion, etc.)
